Blogging For More Business

By: Mike McCoy

A blog is an ever changing, regularly updated website that is changing the way many online entrepreneurs do business.

Many beginning online business owners feel intimidated by the ins and outs of web design and maintenance. But even if you feel you don't have the technical know-how to build and update your main business website, you should look into blogging to boost your internet brand and reputation.

Why?

For one thing, blogs are an optimal way to get your information indexed by the search engines. They are also easy to maintain and update. Even if you have to pay someone to do the initial blog setup, you will likely be able to add to it in no time.

Most blogging websites have a very user friendly interface that make writing and editing blog posts as simple as writing and editing emails.

Blogs are a fantastic way to connect with your customers by engaging in conversation with them on a regular basis. You will also be able to bond with other business owners who are members of the blogging community by reading their blogs, posting comments, and linking to their posts on your blog.

Blogs are visually appealing to customers because they are always changing and can be enhanced with photos, audio and video. There is really no limit to the visual possibilities of a blog. All you need a little imagination and determination to see it happen!

The lifeblood of a blog is also the very thing that is sometimes a deterrent to would-be bloggers: the challenge of keeping it fresh. To avoid blog burnout, before you put up your first post, put some "rainy day" posts aside and save them for a day when you don't have time to post.

Also, start with a conservative posting schedule. Some of the most successful bloggers update their sites several times a day, but this may not be practical for your business needs. Start with once or twice weekly updates, and after that becomes comfortable, you could try to work up to four times a week, or even once daily.
If keeping up with even a minimal posting schedule is too difficult, you might consider outsourcing your updates. There are lots of freelance writers out there who will "ghostwrite" you blog pots in your own style and voice.

Give a blog about three to six months to see if it works for you. As your blog matures, you'll likely notice an increase in traffic and interest in your website, and by then you'll probably be hooked on it!
