Choosing the Right Lube for Vaginal Intercourse

Great vaginal intercourse demands a great lubricant. There are so many lubes to choose from, and picking out the right one is important. It can make the difference between good sex and great sex.

Lubricants come in generally three forms, oil based, water based, and silicone based. Oil based lubricants are not recommended for vaginal intercourse for a couple of reasons. Oil lubes should not be used with condoms, diaphragms and other inserted birth control, or with sex toys. Oil lubricants can break down latex and plastics. Oil based lubes are also a poor choice for vaginal intercourse because the oil can coat the vagina and lead to a bacterial infection.

Silicone based lubricants are generally ok for vaginal intercourse. These lubes should not be used with sex toys that are made with silicone, though; they will compromise and break them down. One of the only issues with a silicone based lubricant is that sometimes these lubes are difficult to wash off, so after having vaginal intercourse with a silicone lube, make sure that you do use soap and water to completely get rid of it. Silicone lube that remains on the vagina too long can cause irritation, and can coat the vagina, leading to bacterial infection.

Water based lubricants are the most popular lubes for vaginal intercourse. As long as they do not contain sugars or glycerin, they are great. Many products that are water based have no odor, and if there is a taste to them (if they are not flavored like strawberry) the taste is pleasant. Water based lubricants are very close to the natural lubricant produced by the vagina, and will wash off easily, reducing the risk for any infection. Vaginal Intercourse will be enhanced greatly with a good water based lubricant, and water based lubes are generally cheaper than the other two types.

Water lubricants are 100% safe to use with condoms and other birth control methods, which is one of the main reasons why they are so popular. They will not compromise the strength of the condom. A good vaginal intercourse lube should be non toxic, hypo allergenic, and should be manufactured without chemicals or preservatives.

Water based lubricants are safe for you to use every day, and they should have been tested for safety and allergy tested as well. Water lubes also are great for vaginal intercourse (or any other type of intercourse) because they wont stain fabrics and will wash out of your bed sheets easily.
