New Zealand; Immigration To The Magical Islands

With the current economic malaise in the UK it is understandable that so many people are choosing to emigrate to New Zealand. This situation has been aided by the immigrations service that has set up a scheme allowing skilled workers to emigrate easily and with the minimum of fuss. It is hoped that this process will enhance the economy of New Zealand while only welcoming migrants who will bring something to the country, its society and skills base. Subsequently the best way to become an ex-pat or Kiwi is to be included in one of the skilled migrant categories.

Information on which professions are deemed as required is available from the New Zealand Immigration Service. It has worked hard to produce a comprehensive list of which employees are needed the most. It is worth remembering however that there will be general entry requirements, even for skilled workers. These general criteria are based upon the age, character and health of the applicant. In most cases migrants are required to be at a good working age, between twenty and fifty five, in good health without outstanding ailments and without a criminal record. If these requirements are not met, entry to New Zealand as a migrant can be difficult.

In order to assess the worth of each applicant the Immigration Service has developed a system of points. In order to be submitted to the points system, the first step is to send an expression of interest to the relevant bodies. It is at this stage the service will assess the applicants' experience as well as other factors. These factors apply to points and if an applicant reaches over 140 points they are automatically accepted for immigration. It is important not to lose heart however for those who do not make the magic 140; those who score more than 100 will be entered into a draw which can result in acceptance. When either accepted through the draw or automatically an official ITA or invitation to apply is sent from the service.

While the list of skilled migrants is expansive there are a few general pointers of the types of industries that will be applicable. Medical staff are especially needed such as doctors, radiologists and nurses. Additionally due to the large agricultural industry in New Zealand, short term labour is always in high demand; however longer term positions are available with the right qualifications, for instance those with attributes in wine making can be employed in the country's burgeoning wine industry. That is not all, the trades, such as building, plumbing and electricians are also needed, showing that it is not just professionals, but tradesmen as well who are needed in New Zealand.

In terms of the Kiwi society, the inhabitants believe in one ethos; this is to work hard, and play even harder. Kiwis love their sports; naturally rugby is an extremely popular sport although both soccer and cricket are well represented. Additionally because of the country's advantageous landscape there is the opportunity to enjoy beach activities such as surfing as well as snowboarding and skiing during the winter months. Those who are accepted for immigration will be able to enjoy this brilliant way of life, fully immersing themselves in the society.

Immigration is proving so popular with many UK residents because of the beauty of New Zealand as well as the sublime weather and climate. This is not the only reason however, with such a welcoming migration policy it makes gaining residence that more attractive.
