Reasons To Have Smoke Detectors In Your Home

Smoke detectors are very important to have in your house because they warn you that there is smoke and danger. They save millions and billions of lives, and that is why it is a good idea to have this in your home for your family's sake. It detects smoke in just a few minutes after the smoke is in the air. It does not matter if it is just a little smoke because it will detect it anyway. If you are smoking in your home the smoke detectors will go off because the smoke from the cigarettes will rise up to the ceiling and set it off. This is one of the reasons why it is not good to smoke in your house. The other reasons are because of your family and their health. If you don't have one, then all you have to do is install them. You can have someone do it for you or you can do it yourself. You have to follow the directions that are in the box so you can install it right.

Do not put the smoke detector too close to your kitchen because it will go off when you are cooking. You need to place the smoke detector 10 inches from the ceiling or put it in the middle of the ceiling. It is good to have them on every floor in your house. This way you will hear it if it goes off even if you are sleeping. Also, do not put it by or near the fireplace because it will go off. Don't put used batteries in the smoke detectors. You have to put new batteries in them so you know they will work and so they will work for a long time. Don't put them in the corners or right at the top of the wall because it is an air pocket, and it will be harder for it to detect the smoke in the air. When it does detect the smoke, it just might be too late.

Test your smoke detectors every month so you know that they are working properly. You can test them by lighting up a match or blowing it out and putting it up to the detector or underneath it. This way it will go off and you will know that it is working. But if it does not go off, then you need to check the batteries and if that does not work, then you need to put new batteries in there. Don't put off checking them because they will save your life some day. If the batteries are low or are going low, you have to change them right away because the batteries must be good and charged for it to work right.
