The Basics Of Letting Your Kids Use Water Colors

By: Aydan Corkern

Watercolors are very fun to use. Kids use them all the time in school and at home. They make the cutest, little paintings of all different colors. Artists even use watercolors. They make beautiful paintings of the outdoors, people, lakes, and rivers. The colors are so pretty when they are mixed together, but if you use too much water you will have a mess running down your painting. It will look odd, but sometimes it can look cool.

When your kids are at home you have to keep an eye on them because you can have paint everywhere. It is easy to take care of because it just wipes off. Watercolors make great party favors and is good to help them learn how to paint. In the kids area of a department or toy store, you will find plenty of watercolors, but it is meant for the kids who are going into preschool, kindergarten, and first grade. When they go into the bigger grades, they will use other paints. The kids will have fun with these things because they like to make a mess and it's ok. Because it is not harmful to use, it is a good toy to let your kids use because it is so safe.

When your child comes home and their shirts and pants are covered in paint, don't worry because it is washable. It will come out of their clothes after you wash them. Watercolors dry really fast on paper, if you don't use a lot. If you do, it will take a little longer to dry but it won't take many hours. The colors don't have water in them. You have to add it to use it. It is solid and it can break into pieces sometimes. It can be broken into powder, but you can still use it. You have to put the color that is in powder form in a small container apart from the mixing bowl. Add a little water to it and mix it really well so that you can use it on paper.

Make sure you tell your kids not to eat it because it is nasty, and they will know not to eat paint. You need to tell them it is bad to do that because if they don't know, they could eat some other kind of paint later in life, and it can be toxic. So tell them to be safe and keep an eye on them for their sake.
