Tips In Dealing With Your Kids Tantrum

By: Jim Brown

It is never an easy task to deal with a child having his periodic tantrums. Personally, I find it exhausting and testing my patience. But raising kids is never a smooth sailing task because one way or another every parent on earth has to go through dealing with their child's temper.

To make it a little more understandable, every growing kid has in one way or another thrown a feat of temper. This is just a common action among kids especially when they are confused, did not get what they wanted or simply just wanted some attention. Basically, kids throw a feat of temper because they essentially do not know how to properly express what they feel and think. It is their defense mechanism, a normal reaction when something comes up. The best thing that we, as parents, can do is to try to get the child calm down.

The best way to deal with a kid's tantrum is to ignore the temper. Do not get affected by the wailing and the whining because if you match your kid's crying with a temper of your own, chances are things will get messy and worst, it could get out of hand. Children who have the tendency to inflict pain on themselves should be watched carefully however do not let them be aware of the fact that you are watching them. Just see to it that they are safe during the peak of their temper. Ignoring the tantrum will make the kids realize that their way of getting attention is certainly not going to work the way they want it to and eventually this will make them stop.

Personally, I find imitation a very funny but effective way of dealing with the tantrum. If your child makes faces while throwing a temper, imitate this and show them what you got. I tried this to my 1-year old and defeated him either because he finds it funny or he realized how ridiculous the whole thing is. Imitating him or her is a sure way to distract them and forget they ever had the temper. I know it may sound rather silly and utterly childish to imitate your child, but I have tried it and it works like magic every time. I find this an easier way to deal with him.

Kids do not pick the place and time when they would throw a temper. Sometimes they will start doing a tantrum in public most commonly in department stores where you would be expected to say no to some irrational demands they make. This can be a very embarrassing situation especially when it gets out of hand.

But try to be calm as possible and show your child that he or she is doing something intolerable. Kindly tell them that if they keep acting up, they would surely lose some privilege like buying them toys. It is a pretty sore sight to have a child tailing us crying and wailing. And when the tantrum does not stop after doing some things to alleviate the temper, the best ever thing that you could do is to take them home. Eventually, they will outgrow this stage and you are off to a better start by then.
